Anxiety-Free Treatment for All Ages

If you or anyone in your family suffers from dental anxiety, White Oak Dental & Orthodontics offers sedation dentistry to help ease the stress.

Why We Use Sedation Dentistry

At White Oak Dental & Orthodontics, we aim to make every dental visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible for patients of all ages.

Sometimes, a relaxed environment isn't enough to ease patient anxiety. That's where sedation dentistry comes in. It's an option to make any dental experience smoother and more comfortable.

Here are some reasons why Dr. Aquino would use sedation dentistry for you or a family member:

  • Difficulty staying still for extended periods
  • Anxiety or fear that makes dental procedures challenging
  • Restlessness that could impact the quality of treatment
  • Need for a longer or more complex dental procedure
  • Medical conditions that make traditional dental settings less suitable

What is Nitrous Oxide?

At White Oak Dental and Orthodontics, Dr. Aquino offers nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas."

Why? To help patients feel more at ease during their appointments. This colorless, sweet-smelling gas can make you feel relaxed and joyful.

How Nitrous Oxide Works

Dr. Aquino and our expert team will administer the gas through a mask that fits comfortably over your nose. It's a safe, mild form of sedation that works for kids and adults. You'll feel more relaxed while receiving your dental treatment, making the experience more pleasant.

Before removing the mask, we'll provide pure oxygen for a few minutes. Oxygen helps to clear any remaining nitrous oxide from your system. The effects wear off almost instantly, allowing you to go about your day as usual.

While most patients generally tolerate nitrous oxide well, it can occasionally cause nausea — so it's a good idea to eat a little something before your appointment.

General Anesthesia

At White Oak Dental & Orthodontics, we want your visit to be a positive experience. We encourage patients of all ages to feel at ease. Plus, we work closely with you to make dental care something you can look forward to.

While Dr. Aquino’s goal is to provide treatment without sedation or general anesthesia, there are instances where it may be necessary. In select cases, we use general anesthesia to maintain your the safety and well-being.

This allows us to perform needed dental procedures in a controlled, balanced environment. Whether it's a routine check-up or a more complex treatment, we're committed to providing you with comprehensive dental care safely and comfortably.

How Does General Anesthesia Work?

General anesthesia — often called "being put to sleep” — is a state of controlled unconsciousness. It's administered by a trained anesthesiologist who monitors you while our dental team completes your necessary work.

General anesthesia can especially benefit you if you require extensive dental care from Dr. Aquino. It allows for a more relaxed experience, eliminating the need for multiple stressful visits.

If general anesthesia is the right choice for you or a family member, our dental team will review all the details with you. You'll get precise instructions on what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Is General Anesthesia Right for You?

General anesthesia can be the best path for certain patients. It remains especially useful if you are highly anxious or have specific medical conditions.

Here are some scenarios where general anesthesia may be beneficial:

  • Severe dental anxiety or difficulty cooperating, often due to young age
  • Need for multiple treatments that would require several visits, especially if other options have been exhausted
  • To prevent emotional stress while completing essential dental work
  • For patients with special needs who find traditional dental settings challenging

Our team will carefully evaluate each case to determine if general anesthesia is the most suitable option for you or your family member.
